Little Free Libraries – building literacy one library at a time!

SONY DSC

Fairviewers joined together with our Acadia neighbours in late November for a day of woodworking as we built our first set of Little Free Libraries (LFLs).  We had a great time building each small wooden library under the direction of Kevin Bentley, who has been building LFLs with communities in Calgary for several years and built his 100th with us!  In the spring we will paint and decorate our LFLs, then they will be placed throughout the community and filled with books.  You can read more about LFLs and how they work at http://littlefreelibrary.org/.  We plan to build another set of LFLs soon – contact lfl@fairviewcommunity.ca if you are interested in being involved with this project.

Thanks to Adam Kivell and the Acadia Community Association, the ARC, the Acadia Strong Neighbourhood Initiative, Community & Neighbourhood Services, Rona, and Councillor Carra’s office for their support!
