Fairview Community Scores a BIG Hit for An Evening of Wine and Cheese

The Evening of Wine and Cheese on November 18th was everything that a local fundraising event should be: fun, entertaining, satisfying and most of all successful. This event aimed to raise funds for the purchase of playground equipment for Flavelle Park . This function was spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Tracy Sanford and Melody Eisenbart who were assisted by other community volunteers and board members from the Fairview Community Association.

The evening kicked off with entertainment which put everyone in a good mood with original song selections by Trina Nestibo (www.trinanestibo.com) who sang and played guitar, accompanied by Aldo Aguirre playing violin. Their instruments were very synchronized and complimented their uplifting sound. In-Definite Arts added to the warm ambience with their photo art displays throughout the venue.

Dave Eisenbart, Vice President of the Community Association, being the M.C. of the evening, provided the guests with sharp points of the evening’s agenda, including the silent auction, raffle and of course the event’s purpose!

As the evening progressed, a welcoming speech was delivered by Bob Montgomery, President, Calgary-Egmont Progressive Conservative Constituency Association representing MLA, Soliciter General and Minister Jonathan Denis. Mr. Montgomery expressed how privileged he was to have graced the event on behalf of Minister Denis, aka “Alberta’s top cop”. Trevor Dickie, Head of Planning and Development, Focus Equities later spoke and explained the history behind their planning of the Deerfoot Meadows land development.

Throughout the event, guests were treated to wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvres. Part of the evening’s highlight was a showcase of fabulous silent auction items donated by generous businesses and individuals in Fairview and beyond. There were also many exciting prizes raffled.

The night concluded with a surprise announcement by Ken Mariash, Developer and Owner of Focus Equities. He committed to ensuring that regardless of the amount raised by the guests, he would make a donation that would bring the total amount raised to the halfway mark of $17,500.00!

It is very encouraging to see a project this worthwhile, getting such a big start. Thanks to all who shared their resources, time and talent to make this wine and cheese a truly community effort of which the residents of Fairview can be very proud. And the next time an event like this rolls around, don’t regret missing out on the event that everyone is talking about!
