Calla Hair & Esthetics owner Karen Langille

Calla Hair & Esthetics

7220 Fairmount Drive S.E.

No doubt you’ve driven by Calla Hair & Esthetics, at the corner of Fairmount Drive and Flint Road, many times before. But if you’ve never had the pleasure of being inside, you are missing out on a wonderful local experience.

Owner Karen Langille bought the Fairview business about 2.5 years ago – formerly Hairs to You for over 30 years – and has been very busy building the neighbourhood business ever since. Karen had formerly worked in the property management field for 21 years, but followed her passion for esthetics into the business about 10 years ago when she needed a lifestyle change. She rented a space from Hairs to You and started up Nails by Karen in 2006, then bought the whole show in 2012. The salon was renamed “Calla Hair & Esthetics” in 2013 to begin a new chapter and fit the space and Karen’s personal style. Origin of the name? One of Karen’s favourite flowers is the Calla Lily!

Karen’s first big job was to renovate the dated interior, a job she completed top to bottom in four 16-18 hour days with her own vision and elbow grease and with the help of several supportive and industrious friends and family. The result is exactly what Karen desired for the space – a classy and modern look that is open, warm and inviting, where her clients can’t help but feel relaxed and comfortable.

Calla provides a wide rltuntitledgt 553_zpsyymr2xayange of hair and esthetic services including mens, ladies and kids haircuts, hair colouring and styling, perms, highlights, manicure and pedicure, facials, waxing, tinting and piercing. Calla has also made a strong commitment to extremely high quality hair products that is healthy to the hair. They are one of only a few salons in Calgary that use and sell salon-exclusive L’ANZA Healing Haircare products and Karen’s passion for such quality products is unwavering. L’ANZA products are based on the concept that healing is the foundation for beautiful hair – they target the causes of damaged hair, not just treat the symptoms. The products contain no known carcinogens, are not tested on animals and the packaging is made from recyclable materials and is recyclable itself.

What makes Calla successful? Karen speaks passionately about the Calla team – hair stylists Stacey, Kayla and Gladys and estheticians Yuri and herself  – who give their clients 100% one-on-one attention at all times and know many of their clients personally. The “team” feels more like a family, all working together to provide a great client experience. Calla also firmly believes in ensuring that their employees are fully ltuntitledgt 557_zpsdecx5k5ytrained and licensed or certified in their chosen field, a policy that only cements their commitment to quality. Karen is also passionate about continued learning for her staff so that they can continue to grow the services they can provide to their valued clients.

Clients tell Karen and the team that they love coming to Calla because it is so warm, open, quiet and welcoming and staff know their clients by their name. Calla also has many great, loyal clients in Fairview and Karen would like to keep it that way!
